The Herbarium
of Northeast China (IFP)
The herbarium of Institute
of Applied Ecology, CAS,founded in 1954 is the largest and comprehensive
one in Northeast China. The herbarium stores about 521,000 specimens,
including 260,000 of vascular plants, 120,000 of bryophytes, 30,000
of lichens, 15,000 of fungi, 60,000 of insects, 10,000 of plant diseases,
25,000 of microbe strains,1000 of timbers and 20,000 of soil specimens,
as well as more than 10,000 books and literature on taxonomy and flora.
There are eight scientific research staffs
and five technicians at the herbarium. The major researches are focused
on systematics and evolution of plants; conservation and sustainable
utilization of plant biodiversity, insect and disease of forests;
and systematics and utilization of microbial resources. More than
80 monographic books and about 1000 scientific papers have been published
and 37 research achievements rewarded since foundation of the herbarium.
The herbarium has become an important base of essential research and
exploitation and utilization of biological resources in Northeast
China and one of bryological research centers in East Asia
